bd Systems Wins GIS Contract from the County of Los Angeles
TORRANCE, California, 30 May 2006 – The
County of Los Angeles Chief Administrative Office has awarded bd
Systems, Inc. a work order under the Information Technology Support
Services Master Agreement (ITSSMA) to provide assistance in developing
web based GeoSync tool for converting various county attribute datasets
into a geospatial format. bd Systems will assist Los Angeles County (the
County) with geospatial integration of its attribute datasets. The
contract, valued at approximately $124,000, is expected to cover a
period of at least 12 months.
“We are very proud to have the opportunity to continue working with the
County of Los Angeles,” said bd Systems President and CEO Clarisa F.
Howard. “Our work has the potential to save County employees time and
taxpayers money,” Howard said.
The County of Los Angeles maintains large quantities of spatial and
non-spatial information. Currently, various County departments,
including Health and Human Services, the Fire Department, and the
Sheriff’s Department, each keep multiple datasets up-to-date in
non-spatial formats. bd Systems will assist the County in developing and
populating a Web-based tool to assist in moving all non-GIS data sources
into GIS format.
The Web-based GeoSync tool will allow easy access from County
departments in different network domains. In addition to the geocoding
process, this tool will automatically synchronize data into a
centralized database and report any errors found.
Previously, bd Systems developed the geocoding engine for this project.
According to Howard, the company will leverage its current knowledge and
understanding of the County’s hardware, software, communications
infrastructure, and geocoding engine to reduce cost and maximize project
benefits.
