bd Systems Awarded SBIRS Sustainment Support, Configuration Management,
Technical Order Management And Strategic Planning Contract
TORRANCE, California, 30 December 2002 – bd
Systems has been awarded a Professional Engineering Service, Time and
Material Contract with a value of $16,600,000 over 10 years (one year
with 9 one-year options) by the USAF Space and Missile Systems Center
(SMC). The Defense Support Program (DSP) and Space Based Infrared
Systems (SBIRS) are part of the Air Force Space Command Director of
Operations (AFSPC/DO) Early Warning Systems. The System Support Manager
(SSM) support staff is an integral part of the Space and Missile Systems
Center (SMC) MT Program Office and is primarily responsible for the new
SBIRS and the DSP satellite systems presently in sustainment.
The SBIRS system is the United States early warning
system for missile launches from ground based installations as well as
the primary detection system for nuclear testing and detonations. The
DSP consists of a constellation of geosynchronous satellites linked to a
network of worldwide mobile and fixed ground stations. bd Systems has
been and will continue to provide an expert and experienced team with
the right technical skills, knowledge, and current acquisition and
sustainment expertise to cover all Sustainment Support, Configuration
Management, Technical Order Management And Strategic Planning task.
The first year Delivery Order is valued at $1.2 M.
This will lead to subsequent execution of the 9 one-year options from
SMC. This Small Business program award resulted from the great team
efforts of the Colorado Springs people and bd Corporate staff who have
been supporting SMC for many years, Special appreciation goes to Drew
Tobin, Robert DeJean, Patrick McCarter and Jan Friedman for preparing
the proposal and negotiating in a timely manner to meet the tight
proposal time constraints.
